Charleston Community Project

A three month residency in a local community in Charleston, South Carolina in 2016. Within this community each family unit operates alongside one another: a connected body. They live transparently, with an open door policy, sharing their deepest concerns and suffering, letting the messiness of their lives be seen clearly. I collected stories from each family, narrating their understanding and experience of ‘community’

The residency bore a published ‘Charleston Community Cookbook’ which collated collected recipes, stories, interviews, photographs and drawings. I also fabricated a quilt from a piece of clothing from each individual in the community showing their ‘sewn together interconnectedness’. Both of these works were gifted to the community.
