[Station House, Durham]
The Station House was opened in December 2015 by Chris and Susannah Mansfield, with the aim of building the pub they wanted to drink in, in the hope that enough other people agreed!
As a small group of four we had more intimate and deep conversations about hospitality in pubs, at Station House specifically, in the hospitality industry and in our homes. We also talked about how our upbringing has affected our own hospitality.
KILN set up in the upstairs of the micropub.
There was a good view over the train arches and the street outside.
KILN fit neatly in the space, next to the old kegs.
I set my host table up so that it was visible to the guests. They could see my preparations.
Provocations interspersed each course, provoking conversation on specific aspects of hospitality. These are quotes from my reading and research.
Aperitif: alphabet soup - hospitality in our conversations.
Starter: construct your own space - hospitality in our place making.
Main: wraps - hospitality in our host/guest relationships.
Dessert: paint a communal dessert - hospitality in community.
Afters: tea and biscuits - hospitality in the day to day. Each guest created their own recipe card for hospitality.
